B i o g r a p h y

I was born into a very musical family. Everyone in my family plays an instrument. My grandmother, a church organist and choir director, began teaching me piano lessons at age 5. At age 3, I started singing in my church choir programs. I chose to learn the French horn in fifth grade because I was told I had a good ear and the right lips to play it. I have been fortunate to study privately under two wonderful teachers for 6 years. They have helped me become a better musician and have helped me attain many of my musical goals. Being a part of school band has taught me discipline, hard work, and about being a part of something more than myself. My true passion was discovered when I began playing in the Louisville Youth Orchestra (LYO). I have been a member of the orchestra for five years. Three of these years I had the honor of playing principle horn. In 2012, I won the LYO Concerto Competition which gave me the opportunity to play Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3 with my orchestra.

In addition to my music I enjoy swimming, biking, art, and dance. I love the outdoors and being physically active. I have been on a swim team for 10 years. I also danced competitively for several years. In my free time I like to sketch and paint scenes that I find beautiful around me. I have an outgoing personality and I always enjoy meeting new people. This has encouraged me to participate in mission trips, service clubs, and teaching opportunities.

My grandparents are a very integral part of my life, and along with music, something they have enjoyed sharing with me is their travel to different countries. I love meeting people from different places and learning about their lives and experiences. They have taken me many places which have broadened and enriched my understanding and appreciation of other people and cultures.

Because of my perseverance and dedication I have had the opportunity to attend All-State

Band and to play principle horn in All-State Orchestra. I was also invited to attend the Music for

All festival on partial scholarship and play assistant principle horn in the Honors Orchestra of

America 2014. After this experience, I was encouraged to participate in the Idyllwild Chamberfest on full scholarship. During this program I spent two weeks in California playing with various chamber groups. My goal for the future is to acquire a higher education in horn performance and perform in a major orchestra. I plan to do this by attending universities with incredible music programs and horn professors to prepare me for orchestral auditions.

People always say to find a job that you love. I love playing with an orchestra because I can collaborate with scores of other musicians to create something beautiful and unmatched by anything else. Playing with an orchestra brings fulfillment and enjoyment to my life.
